Taking Over Cuba
Fidel became dictator of Cuba. Castro's opposition to U.S. influence in Cuba and other parts of the world made conflict between the two nations inevitable. This was due to the fact that Csato did not want Cuba to be part of the U.S runned state. In 1959 American business interests joined disaffected Cubans in sounding the alarm that Castro was a Communist. Whether Castro was a Marxist-Leninist at this time or before is hard to know, but he did associate with the People's Socialist Party (PSP) because it offered support and a solid political organization.

Castro proved himself a strong leader and also demonstrated shrewd political skills. Convinced that he had a historic duty to change the character of Cuban society, Seeing his army collapse, and unable to count on the support of the United States, Batista fled on Jan. 1, 1959, paving the way for Castro's rise to power. In its early phase, Castro's revolutionary regime included moderate politicians and democrats. Gradually, however, its policies became radical and confrontational. Castro remained the unchallenged leader, and the masses whose living conditions he improved rallied behind him.
