iran.pngThe bombing of Abadan refinery by Iraq forces- Abadan is a small island at the head of the Persian gulf which was one of the worlds largest oil refinery and was able to make 600,000 barrels per day. This all changed when Iraqi forces bombed and destroyed it in 1980, making gas for cars in Iran difficult to get and decreased their economy by a large percentage. Abadan was one of the main targets for Iraqi bombings since it was what gave Iran a boost in their economy so most of the war took place in Abadan. The population in Abadan was huge before the Iraq-Iran war but the population of the city dropped to near zero during these eight years.
