Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep
Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep is a novel written by Philip K. Dick based on how life turns out to be in the year 2021.
Here is a link that will show you a quick summary and overview of the novel:
The history of this book deals with the cold war in the 1960s in which america had a major arms race with Russia.
In the book "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" the nuclear warheads were used causing them to live in a radiation contaminated world. It was published in 1968.
In the book, Philip K. Dick describes a world where much of planet Earth's surface is devastated and destroyed, and radioactive fallout covers nearly everything. Nearly all species of animals on the planet are extinct, and conditions are so bad that people have been forced to emigrate to the newly built colonies on Mars and the moon, where they receive android servants upon arrival.
The book mainly focuses on Rick Deckard, a bounty hunter in the employment of the San Francisco Police Department. His job is to "retire" (i.e. kill) escaped androids that have run away from Mars, because the only way for an android to escape the slave labor work they are forced to do on Mars is to kill their master and find a way to get off-planet. Another for why andorids are being retired is because the remaining humans wouldn't want the androids to come and take over the world. Rick Deckard, the bounty hunter, however is going through a troubled state of mind becasue teh androids are so realistic, that he would have difficulty to kill them.
The book talks about many subjects and themes, such as humanity, technology, discrimination, and war, to name a few.
