However, although the book states that to be human, you must feel empathy toward living things. And if you don't, you are inhuman. But then again, today, their are many people out there who kills animals, people, etc. out of pure joy and withour remorse. Yet they are still considered human.

what is empathy?

  • Often characterized as the ability to "put oneself into another's shoes".

  • It involves understanding of the emotional state of other people.

  • Many people have empathy, and many people do not have empathy. When you have empathy the pain of others hurts you or you feel like helping them in a certain way.

  • In the book " Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep", empathy plays an important role in each of the characters lives. There is even a box named "Black Empathy Box" where humans connect and empathize for each other.

  • It is the identification with and understanding of another's situation, feelings, and motives.

  • To show empathy is to identify with another's feelings. It is to emotionally put yourself in the place of another.

  • The ability to empathize is directly dependent on your ability to feel your own feelings and identify them.

  • When someone feels empathy is when someone feels feelings for someone. For example when someone is feeling some emotion and someone feels their pain. Another example would be if someone is sad or upset and someone is crying for them cause they feel their pain.

  • Empathy is the intellectual identification with or vicarious experiencing of the feelings, thoughts, or attitudes of another.

The Voigt-Kampff Empathy Test tells if someone is a human or an android, by seeing sees if you have empathy. "My verbal responses won't count. It's solely the eye-muscle and capillary reaction that you'll use as indices." (48). The Voigt phsycological test shows how your body reacts. There is also another way to test if someone is human and has empathy by doing a bone marrow analysis which is slow and painful. "I want a bone marrow analysis made of you. It can eventually be organically determined whether you're android or not; it's slow and painful, admittedly, but--" (52) In Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? it is mentioned many times that empathy is a human emotion, and that androids cannot feel or sustain emotions. Their lack of empathy for other living things is really their only flaw in completely mimicking the actions and thoughts of a human being, and Voigt-Kampff empathy test is the only way to tell if someone is human or an android. in the book that were reading now there are andriods that try to live with humans, but u can easily tell them apart because they dont feel empathy and empathy means when u understand a persons feeling and feeling pity.

Empathy is sensing someone's pain in an objective way. In other words taking someone's pain into yourself. Also the experience
of someone's thought, attitude and another.
