Starbucks started in 1971 in Seattle, Washington by three friends; English teacher Jerry Baldwin, history teacher Zev Siegel, and writer Gordon Bowker. They were inspired by Alfred Peet which opened their first store Pike Place Market to sell coffee beans and other things that has to do with coffee. In their first year of they purchased green coffee beans from Peet's and then they began buying directly from growers.
